Toyota Land Cruiser ROX Concept debuts at the 2024 SEMA show with an open-air transformation inspired by the Classic FJ40. This concept combines Toyota's great off-road heritage; it's roof is removed and reinforced with the structural elements to come up with a rugged beach-ready pickup. It was designed by Toyota's Calty design research studio, and it pushes the brand of iconic SUV, getting rid of convectional elements and adding on a high-strength reinforcement, ensuring both durability and style.
The C-pillars were removed, and the D-pillars were eliminated. Envision with me, the new approach to the roof, which is now made of soft material as a panoramic structure that enhances the occupant’s interaction with nature. Toyota also designed specific half doors which are unglazed, maximizing the rough atmosphere of the vehicle. The ROX is packed with heavy-duty equipment to tackle all terrains. The front and rear bumpers consist of a steel structure, and the skid plates and the brush guards are reinforced, which now opens up the focus of Toyota on prioritizing durability and embracing its off-road legacy. The back features a tailgate and a new spare wheel carrier, adding up to the ROX adventure- ready look.
Land Cruiser ROX offers a nostalgic touch to Toyota's fans paying homepage to the FJ40 Land Cruiser's generation. Its nod to the days when Land Cruiser was known for its open-air capabilities, and chief designer Adam Raninowits from Calty Design Studio shared earlier that his team drew from past design to create an emotional connection with the outdoors.
The ROX engineers ensured that when removing the roof, they didn't have any problems with the vehicle's structural stability. To archive it, the Toyota design teamadded a roll bar across the C pillars, and their machinery was kept busy building steel components required for this bespoke job.
The Land Cruiser ROX will make a spectacular appearance on the 5th of November 2024 at the SEMA show, which is going to take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This project showcases the willingness of Toyota to reinvent itself while respecting its history, which is why it is an absolute eye-catcher for modern and traditional off-roading fans alike.
